Five freedoms in the first amendment

These rights are not unlimited

The Tinker standard- Supreme court case says that first amendment protects on campus student speech. It was the first to provide and protect our first amendment rights at school.( Black arm Bands)

The Fraser Standard- Inappropriate speech for a class pressident. Students are now allowede to be censored inside a school for a variety of limiting standards. ( have to change shirts when asked)

The Hazelwood Standard- Articles in newspaper about pregnancy censored by school. It is not vulgar(fraser) or disruptive(Tinker) The supreme court ruled that it is allowed for the school to censor news atricles if the are going against what the curriculum of the school is.( what the school is teaching)
applies only to school sponsored speech. does not apply to public forum

The Frederick Standard- Olympic torch " bong hits for jesus" on day off.
freerick was off school grounds
principal moorse said he canceled school, and the kids were still representing it on their day off. And the sign went against the teachings of the school.
supreme court ruled in favor of the school.
